All renovations in our house have been brought to a halt for the time being. We find winter to be a tough time to get anything done around here due to the cold and the extra money that’s needing to be allocated to our heating bill each month. Our master bedroom is in need of an electrician before we can finish the room. Once the electrician comes and redoes the wiring in the ceiling to install our new ceiling fan and my husband removes the radiator pipe from the floor, we’ll lay our new flooring and we ready to officially move in there.
When the room actually is done, we are starting from the ground up in terms of furniture and decor. We will be transitioning from a Full sized bed to a Queen. So far we had been buying our furniture on a need basis and price had been the biggest factor in our decision making. This is the first room of the house to be brought together with some adult home decor planning. I’m excited!
So today I decided to do a little Target window shopping for room decor to fit the nautical theme we’ve picked out for the bedroom. We’re doing a Cape Cod beachy thing in our upstairs bathroom too, I can’t help it. I love the ocean!
Just to give you a picture- we’ve painted the walls a shade of blue, the floors will be a dark brown wood, and the trim is also dark brown. If the trim hadn’t been original to the house I would be changing it to white, but I hate destroying one of the few elements this house still holds true to date.
The room is not the biggest, so having a little storage under the bed is a great help for us. I’m also a big fan of the pretty fabric headboard.
My husband really leaves the home decor purchases up to me, but his one sticky point is when it comes to bedding. He absolutely does not want to sleep in a bed that has flowers or pink all over it. It’s funny because the temporary bed we have been using has pink and purple blankets on it since it’s a mishmash of my stuff.
Since this is now an us purchase I want to make sure it is something that he likes as well.
I like this lamp because it’s simple, but allows for some personalization. I think it would look add to the theme with some sand and shells inside.
I want to throw some color into the room to balance the blues. Yellow is my favorite pop color, but at the moment I’m conflicted between a yellow or red rug. Luckily they sell this one in both colors. I like the trellis pattern because it slightly resembles ropes and I like the bedding and the rug matching patterns but not colors.
Once we get the bed in the room, I’m going to have to measure to see if we have room for this. But it’s so cute!
This mirror fits in perfectly with the theme. I’m thinking it might work better in the bathroom, so either way it’s getting saved for later.
The room wouldn’t be complete without some nautical wall decor. I’m fortunate to live a short drive to the ocean in several different states, that means wall decor like this is a dime a dozen. I won’t have any trouble finding exactly the right small decor pieces to finish the room once I have all of the big stuff put together. For those with less access to nautical decorations, I will be looking for pieces like this compass wall hanging.
